About me

I have worked with AI since 2000 and spent more than twenty years leading technology strategy and transformation for large organisations. I still build AI systems myself.

My story

How I got here.

My focus on AI started in 2000, when I studied neural networks during my master's degree in computer science. Since then I have researched the use of AI across many verticals, including Aviation, and I have created both AI and Cloud Centres of Excellence (CoE). It has not been a straight line getting here, and I think the road matters as much as where it led.

Night shifts and dial-up

Long before I finished my degree, I worked night shifts at an ISP, back in the days of dial-up internet, and went to lectures during the day. That work paid for my degree.

Two jobs, straight after my Master's

As soon as I finished my Master's, I took two jobs at once: part-time professor teaching microprocessor technology at a university, and IT manager at a small IT company.

Starting over in the UK

When I landed in the UK in the early 2000s, my English wasn't good enough yet for IT work, so I worked in restaurants, cleaning and cooking, while I found my feet. My first real IT break came almost by accident: I applied for a security guard job at a small security company in Middlesex, Greater London, and it turned out they needed someone in IT instead. I went from an inexperienced IT hire who barely spoke English to Group IT Manager across a group of nine companies, the only non-management person in the room when I sat in on board meetings advising the leadership.

First startup, first exit

In 2007 I started my first company, Invent Knowledge. I sold it a few years later, and used the proceeds to buy Sibson Airport, near Peterborough, stepping away from IT for a short break around 2010 (more on that on my Highlights page).

Founding AMPS Global

Back in IT after that break, some part-time contracting work led to other roles, and eventually to founding AMPS Global, a cybersecurity and IT consultancy I built to £900k first-year turnover and to the point it was fundable. I had to exit early, without any shares, for family reasons; the company is now BlockApt.

BBC, HPE, Capgemini, and independent again

From there I went to the BBC, then HPE, then Capgemini, which had hired a wave of HPE's senior consultants, myself included. When that role turned out not to be the right fit, I moved back into independent consulting, working across several companies and projects at the same time: Chief Architect on IAG's hybrid-cloud transformation, alongside ATOS on their other client work, Global Lead of Transformation at Nestlé, and in 2022, helping launch Kapto AI, an intelligent document processing (IDP) solution for insurance.

Where it led

Back to ATOS, this time as CTO.

As ATOS's account CTO for EUROCONTROL from 2022, I was responsible for its long-term IT strategy. Over the following years it moved from running only its own data centres to fully public cloud, making EUROCONTROL the first regulated aviation organisation recognised as EU critical infrastructure to adopt public cloud. I created the Journey to Cloud (J2C) programme that delivered it, and led establishment of its Cloud Centre of Excellence.

That work led into the AI strategy I built, which set EUROCONTROL on course to become an AI-first organisation; the major AI transformation now under way there is based on it. In 2025 I was promoted to Global CTO, Aerospace and Aviation at ATOS, setting up the aviation vertical's technology strategy and go-to-market and leading the team working on AI-based incident management for EUROCONTROL, including an agentic AI proof of concept.

I have always been a problem solver. People who know me bring me onto projects and clients where they need someone to work through difficult problems, technical, business or leadership, and get to an answer.

I also build. Kaidera, the AI platform I designed, coordinates specialist AI workers with project knowledge and human review. Building it keeps my advice grounded in what can actually be delivered.
